Medical ID not transferring to Apple Watch

on my iPhone 6S Plus my Medical ID is filled in and correct. When I press the side button on my Watch, there is no info entered and the watch says to enter it on my iPhone. Why is the data not transfering to my Watch (OS 3, Second Generation 42MM Watch?
